How to stop your dog running away?

It is normal that your dog runs away when you let him off the leash. Because you do it especially for your pet can feel freedom and actively run around.

The problem comes when your dog refuses to come back and doesn't listen to commands. So you can wait for many hours until your pet agrees to return home.

How to correct the situation?

If this has already happened at least once, then you do not need to let the dog off the leash again, because this will become a habit.

To change the situation, you need to realise why your dog runs away.

Your dog may be uncomfortable with you. You often pull the leash, scold, do not let him stop and sniff something interesting. Thus, when the dog runs away, he will want to be free as long as possible and not return.

Your pet has less activity than he wants. You walk with the dog too little and too fast. He simply does not have time to work up, so he is not in hurry to return. Try walk with your pet more often. For good physical activity, your dog needs to go out at least three times a day.

The dog lacks vivid impressions. If you always walk in the same places, over time your pet will get bored. Dogs love to explore territories, discover new places. From time to time try to change walking routes, then your pet will not want to run away in search of new adventures.

If you want your dog stay with you and not to run away at any chance, it should be interesting for him to spend time next to you. Come up with games and fun activities to keep both of you entertained while walking.
