7 Fun Facts About White Cats

Fluffy, snowy pure white cats are one of the most adorable and lovable felines in nature. Unlike cats of dark colors, which can easily hide in the dark, white cats always remain in sight, their bright glowing coat is hard to miss.

White cats have many facts specific to their snowy coats. Below are fascinating facts about them that you probably didn’t know.

1. Many white cats with blue eyes are deaf. White cats have a genetic code that blocks the black pigment (melanin). This results in a white coat color and blue eyes. The same gene is also strongly correlated with deafness. The same gene is also highly correlated with deafness. This is why cats with white fur and blue eyes are more likely to be deaf.

2. Multi-colored eyes. Some white cats, especially those with the blue eye gene, may have eyes of different colors: one blue and one green, orange or yellow.

3. White cats can suffer sunburns. White cats are more likely than their counterparts with other coat colors to be at risk of sunburn. This is mainly due to the fact that they lack melanin. Melanin is responsible for determining a cat's original color and providing protection from the sun's harsh ultraviolet rays. Therefore, you should not leave your white pet under the sun for too long.

4. The most popular cat is the Persian white cat. These cats really look great. But before you get such a pet, make sure you have enough time in your schedule to care for him regularly. Otherwise, instead of an elegant looking cat, your pet will have a matted and dull appearance.

5. Photogenic. White cats are often considered particularly photogenic because their white color contrasts well with the background, allowing their beautiful features to be captured in photographs.

6. Rarity. Pure white cats are the rarest. Out of the general population of cats, white cats constitute only 5%.

7. White cats are believed to bring good luck. In some countries, people believe that a white cat brings well-being in the family. There are people who are happy just when they see a white cat crossing their path.

White cats are often mentioned in the mythology of different cultures as a symbol of prosperity, good luck and magic.
