Sometimes fish can climb on trees

Labyrinth fish is a small tropical fish that is also called Anabantoidei. What is interesting about this fish?

Fish use their gills to breathe, but labyrinth fish have an additional labyrinth organ for breathing, which is located on their head, between the eyes. Thanks to it, these fish can survive in conditions with low oxygen levels in the water, muddy and polluted water. They can also survive in condition with less water or no water at all.

Some species of labyrinth fish can crawl from one water place to another using their pectoral fins. Among them there is a unique species - Climbing Perch, which climbs trees to search of a habitat.

The labyrinth organ develops naturally in fish over time. Once it fully matures, the fish begin to use it more than their gills.

Habitat

Labyrinth fish mainly live in the Asian region and prefer warm water. They feel good at a temperature of 20-27 degrees Celsius.

These fish live in streams, rivers and ponds. They can be found in places with low water levels and pollution, such as irrigation canals, flooded rice fields, and polluted water sources.

Can it be kept in an aquarium?

These fish are undemanding of their living conditions and water quality. They can survive in an acidic conditions with pH: 6.5.

Labyrinth fish are known for surviving in the most extreme conditions. Thanks to their survival skills, it is very easy and convenient for beginners to keep them in the aquarium.

These fish are not picky about food. They eat small creatures, as well as plants that live in ponds, rivers, and canals.

In the aquarium, you can feed them any food, as long as this food is high in protein. Due to their nature, they can also eat mosquito larvae, worms, brine shrimp and small flies. They can also be fed small pieces of vegetables and plants.
