Warty frogfish are masters of disguise in the underwater world!

Amazing creatures live in the mysterious waters of the Indian Ocean - warty frog fish. These fish are voracious hunters, capable of swallowing prey twice their size. When a frogfish attacks, its mouth can expand to about 12 times its normal size, and the lightning-fast snap of its jaw—about 6 milliseconds, the fastest of any vertebrate—creates a whirlwind that sucks prey into its mouth.

Frogfish are relatively common and inhabit warm tropical waters all over the world, from the Caribbean to the South Pacific. The greatest variety of these fish can be observed in Indonesia, especially in the habitat-rich waters around the Lembeh Strait.

These fish are distinguished by the fact that they are able to disguise very well. They mostly lead a sedentary life, walk along the bottom, and do not swim. The coloration of the fish is varied because they adapt to the environment. In just a few weeks, they can completely change color to blend in with their surroundings.

There are about 50 different species of frogfish, yet individuals from the same species can look different because they change their colors and textures to fit their surroundings. Warty frogfish grow on average up to 15-20 cm.

If you want to keep unusual fish in your home aquarium, then the frog fish is what you need. These fish can live up to 20 years. A large aquarium with good filtration and live rock or coral is suitable for frogfish. It is better to choose larger size neighbors in the aquarium, since this fish can easily swallow prey whole, larger than itself.
