Scientists could calculate the probability that an earthquake would occur in a particular area of ​​the globe, but no scientist can accurately predict a natural disasters.

Some animals have a sixth sense for random natural disasters such as earthquakes. Researchers have long studied animals they think can predict earthquakes to understand what they feel or hear before the ground shakes. It would be an invaluable predictive tool to better prepare for such disasters and greatly reduce the number of injuries and deaths.

So which animals have this unusual and phenomenal ability?

1. Dogs. Researchers believe that dogs can predict earthquakes due to their ability to hear extremely high frequencies, which allow them to hear the high-pitched sounds of rocks smashing underground, a precursor to earthquakes. 

Before an earthquake, dogs exhibit erratic behaviors such as excessive barking or biting, signs that can be used to predict natural disasters. 

2. Cows. The researchers noted that before an earthquake, cows become less active. Scientists believe that this is due to the fact that cows are able to feel the ionization of the air or the smell of gases released from rocks before an earthquake.

3. Snakes. According to experts, snakes are the most sensitive to earthquakes. When an earthquake is due, the snakes leave their nests. Snakes are so sensitive to earthquakes that they can sense their approach from about 120 km away, three to five days before it occurs.

Some seismologists believe that snakes can detect the wave generated by an earthquake, while others say it may be due to an increase in low-frequency electromagnetic fields.

4. Birds. There are many examples that birds can also predict earthquakes. Radar measurements show a huge increase in the number of birds taking off 15 minutes before the events. This suggests that birds may have been aware of approaching the earthquake.
