How to tame a squirrel?

If there is a squirrel in your neighborhood, you can try to tame her. The squirrel is a wild animal, so it can be difficult to get her trust.  However, if you have set this goal, here are a few simple tips to help you connect with the animal:

 1. Let the squirrel get used to your presence. Start by simply being close to her habitat.  At first, don't try to touch or feed her.

 2. If the squirrel lives in your garden, you can arrange a house for her and put there different tasty food every day: nuts, dried fruits, sunflower seeds, dry or fresh mushrooms.

 3. When the squirrel starts to trust, you can try to feed her from your hands.  Start by simply putting food in front of her and then gradually bring your hand closer so that she takes food from it. Take into attention, you can try to call the squirrel by tapping the nuts against each other.  Hands shouldn’t smell like perfume or soap.

 4. When the squirrel gets used to you and will calmly take food from your hands, try to touch her. Start with light stroking.  It is not necessary to stroke the animal much, it is enough to hold it on the back 1 or 2 times.

 5. Be patient. If you want to tame a squirrel it may take you a long time. The main thing is not to immediately frighten off the animal.  If the squirrel senses that you want to catch her, it will be very difficult to make contact.

It is important to know that not every squirrel can be tamed, it depends on character of the animal. Be careful because some squirrels may bite defensively.
