What Largest Snakes To Be Kept For The Beginners?

If you’re thinking about getting a pet reptile, but don't yet know how to care for such a pet, you should take a closer look at snakes. They are a popular pet choice for many people because they don’t necessarily require daily care. Large snakes look especially impressive and immediately attract everyone's attention. Despite their size, even the largest snakes only need to eat once a week.

So, what large snakes are suitable as pets even for inexperienced owners?

1. Royal python

The royal python is one of the most popular species of pet snakes. Its size can reach from 1.2 to 1.8 meters. These reptiles have good character, are relatively slow-moving and usually peaceful. They are also available in a variety of colors, making them attractive to many snake lovers.

2. Corn snake

These snakes typically grow to only 110-120 cm in length and can live for over 25 years. Corn snakes only eat mice, and since they are very docile snakes, they make a great pet.

3. Gopher snake

These snakes make excellent pets due to their easy-going nature. They can live up to an incredible 30 years if they regularly feed on mice. Gopher snakes can reach one meter in length, but sometimes grow larger as adults.

4. Milk snake

With a lifespan that will last upwards of 15 years or more, the average milk snake can grow as long as 60 up to at least 80 centimeters. This is a friendly, relaxed snake that also has impressive coloring.

5. Kenyan Sand Boa

This is one of the snakes that is known to enjoy being handled, making it an excellent choice.

The boa constrictor usually grows up to 100 cm, making it ideal for handling. Since it can live for more than 15 years, its lifespan is not as long as others. It eats mice, but prefers to hunt them by burrowing under the substrate.

6. Children's python

These snakes are very docile, making them excellent pets. The best part is that they won't grow longer than one meter, but most will exceed 80 centimeters. The advantage of this type of snake is that they can easily live in captivity for 25 to 30 years.

7. Rosy Boa

The typical Rosy Boa grows to only 120cm in length and makes a great pet for a beginner due to its gentle disposition. The diet of these snakes should consist only of mice. With good care, expect a pink python to live up to 30 years.
