What kind of music calms dogs?

Music has the potential to calm dogs. There have been only few researches done in this area, but there is enough to suggest that many dogs respond positively to certain types of music. What types of music have a positive effect on our four-legged friends?

Classical music

Many dogs react positively to soft classical music such as the music of Mozart, Bach or Chopin. This music is often characterized by calm melodies and rhythms that can create a peaceful atmosphere.

Relaxing music

There are specially created albums with relaxation music for animals, including dogs. Some music is produced specifically for dogs and has frequencies that dogs, and not humans, can hear.

While our four-legged friends may have their own music tastes and preferences, the tempo, length of the musical notes, simplicity of tones, and regular rhythms are the most important soothing qualities. Such music usually contains natural sounds, calm melodies and leisurely rhythms that create a relaxed atmosphere in the house.

Music for sleeping

Some compositions specifically designed for sleep can be helpful for calming your dog. Typically, this calm and gentle music with a slow tempo and deep sounds helps to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.

Sounds of nature

Many dogs respond well to natural sounds, such as birdsong, the sound of water, or the rustle of leaves. You can find special recordings of nature sounds or just turn on background sounds from the window.

When you turn on music to calm your pet, it is important to keep the volume in mind. Keep the volume moderate to low, as dogs' hearing is about four times as sensitive as ours. Also, it is worth observing the behavior of the animal, if your four-legged friend shows signs of stress or displeasure, it will be more beneficial to simply provide him with a quiet and calm environment without music.
