Phryn looks like a creature from nightmares!

Phryn is a horny spider that, due to its frightening look, causes fear and panic on many people. However, despite its intimidating appearance, it is absolutely safe for humans and can only pose a threat to insects that are included in its diet.

Appearance and habitat

Phrynes are arachnid representatives of a very small detachment. They are found only in areas of the globe with a humid tropical climate. In large numbers, these spiders live in India, the African continent, South America, Malaysia and many other tropical countries.

The appearance of this exotic creature resembles both: a crab, a scorpion, a spider and a cockroach. It has a small body, not exceed five centimeters long, while the size of the legs can reach up to 25 centimeters.

The head of the spider has a protective shell with rounded outlines and four pairs of eyes.

Character and lifestyle

Phryn differs from other representatives of the species in the absence of spider and poisonous glands. It is for this reason that it cannot not only weave a web, but is absolutely harmless to humans. He never attacks people, instead he prefers to hide from their eyes

Like crabs, these arachnids are mostly active at night. During the day they hide in secluded places.

Some species prefer to gather in small groups and even whole flocks, which can be found at the entrances to caves and in large crevices.

Can you keep it at home?

This harmless animal is well suited for home keeping.

Phryne will need a small tropical terrarium measuring 30x30x30 cm, in which you should install live plants and driftwood. This spider loves water, so a small drinking bowl must be freely available. The Phryne does not need to be heated.

With proper care at home, a spider can live up to 12 years.
